California Jobs First is a state program focused on providing funding to build a community-led, climate-forward economy in the Eastern Sierra, with particular emphasis on those from disinvested communities. After a year of research, a comprehensive study of our region was facilitated by the Sierra Business Council to help inform the planning and project focus moving forward. Right now, the group is in a strategic planning phase and needs community input.
Jenn Whitney is participating in the collaborative on the Business and Workforce development subcommittee. At a recent conference in Truckee, the group brainstormed and strategized about how best to support job growth in the 5 main industry sectors the project has identified:
Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems
Sustainable Recreation & Tourism
Natural & Working Lands
Community Healthcare
Clean Energy & Energy Resilience
At the conference, regional leaders including River Queen founder, Jenn Whitney, Bishop Paiute Tribe Chairwoman, Meryl Picard, and Bishop Mayor, Jose Garcia, got together to strategize & brainstorm how best to support job growth and climate and economic resilience for our region.
