This December, Bishop welcomed Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil for a day filled with community connection and celebration. Among her stops was a visit to the future home of River Queen, where she toured the historic building with founder Jenn Whitney and discussed the transformative impact of rural Opportunity Zones.
River Queen Holdings is utilizing an Opportunity Zone Fund to revitalize Bishop’s Main Street, channeling private investment into projects that restore infrastructure, create jobs, and incubate local agriculture and values aligned small businesses. During the building tour, Whitney shared her vision for River Queen Provisions as a cornerstone of this revitalization—offering a farm-to-table restaurant, all regionally and sustainably sourced general store, and boutique guest rooms to bring both locals and visitors together for an inspirational place based experience.

Opportunity Zones are a powerful tool for rural communities that allow us to incentivize direct investment into community led projects that drive economic growth.
Senator Alvarado-Gil praised the innovative approach, highlighting how efforts like these can serve as a model for other rural areas. Their conversation centered on the importance of creating sustainable, community-driven solutions that ensure small towns can thrive in the long term.
In addition to her time at the River Queen Provisions building, the senator attended the opening of Bishop’s Small Business Resource Center, a new hub for supporting local entrepreneurs, and the dedication of the Dave McCoy Memorial Highway, honoring the founder of Mammoth Mountain and his contributions to the Eastern Sierra.
As River Queen Holdings moves closer to breaking ground in 2025, the Opportunity Zone Fund continues to be a beacon of what’s possible when community, creativity, and investment come together.
